Liquefied ammonia (NH3) is a commonly occurring chemical with a distinctive pungent odor and the ability to dissolve in water. When dissolved in water, NH3 forms a solution of ammonium hydroxide (NH4OH), a weak base, which can decompose into NH3 gas and water.
